Policy:
Animal health and safety are of primary importance when using the imaging facility. INST requires that the imaging suite, animal holding and anesthesia rooms are cleaned after each use.
Dr. Gregg Boring and his staff, from the College of Veterinary Medicine, are responsible for ensuring that all rooms are cleaned before leaving the premises.
They will be facilitating all animal cases and are required to be present for all procedures. INST follows all federal and state regulations and guidelines and all IACUC policies and procedures for the use of animals in research.
Procedure:
1. Contact one of CVM's technicians to confirm that someone will be available at the requested date and time, when scheduling your scan:
- Sandy Brown -- (662) 418-8510 -- sbrown@cvm.msstate.edu
- Lisa Littrell -- (662) 617-3313 -- littrell@cvm.msstate.edu
2. Sweep floors, including under cages and trash cans, and around tables and in corners. Move any equipment to access all parts of floor.
3. Mop floors with disinfectant that has been diluted according to directions on the label. Fresh disinfectant should be mixed for each room. The mop water should be dumped after each use. The mop must be hung in the animal holding room cleaning closet to dry.
4. Clean all flat surfaces. Use a dilute Nolvasan solution or 10% bleach or similar product.
5. If a cage is used, it must be sanitized as soon as the animal is removed.
6. Dispose of any animal waste properly. Ensure that all biohazard materials are placed in the appropriately marked container.
7. Restock all cabinets as needed.
8. Complete room sanitization records in each room to document that the room has been cleaned.
Compliance:
Room sanitization is the responsibility of the person(s) bringing the animal case to INST. This person must contact CVM and ensure their availability. Persons without proper authorization will be removed immediately. Failure to follow this procedure will be subject to disciplinary action and/or loss of privileges. Each Department/College using the facility is responsible for ensuring their researchers/clinicians’ compliance
