Comp 3.5 - Access and Security

Policy:
The health and safety of animals and personnel is of primary importance at INST. INST requires that only authorized personnel with appropriate training have access to animal rooms and the imaging equipment areas at INST. INST follows all federal and state regulations and guidelines and all IACUC policies and procedures for the use of animals in research.

Procedure:

1. Anyone entering the INST animal areas must have training and be authorized by INST. Any visitors must be authorized by the INST administration in advance of entering the animal area.

2. INST will secure all animal doors. After appropriate training individuals may be granted access to animal areas. These areas are only to be accessed by authorized personnel. All access will be monitored electronically. Please notify the Systems Administrator of any lost or stolen swipe cards or keys immediately.

3. Entrance to the animal area is only allowed during scheduled time slots. If you should need in the animal areas during non-scheduled hours, please contact INST.

4. No cameras of any type will be permitted in the INST facility without prior approval from INST administration.

5. Doors should remain closed and locked at times No doors should be propped open unless moving an animal through them, at which time they should be immediately closed.

Compliance:

Security is the responsibility of everyone. Suspicious activity should be reported to INST administration immediately. Persons without proper authorization will be removed immediately. Failure to follow this procedure will be subject to disciplinary action and/or loss of priviledges. Each Department/College using the facility is responsible for ensuring their researchers/clinicians’ compliance.
