INST is a new research institute, establishing its own reputation as a high-quality source for academic excellence on the MSU campus. The purpose of the Institute is to provide MSU, the State of Mississippi, and the local community with a premier resource that facilitates scholarly research and high-quality undergraduate and graduate education. Our focus is on science and technology research that is directly applicable to, and serves to optimize, human system performance and enhance the quality of human life.

In our facilities, we house next generation equipment to allow state-of-the-art research and be available to area medical professionals for diagnostic and therapeutic use. We facilitate economic development by building collaborative relationships with high-tech industries and science- and technology-oriented government agencies.
