Monocrystalline Iron Oxide Nanocompound (MION) Labeling of Red Blood Cells for Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Dogs

MSU Fund Number: 360045 192700
Awarded Amount: $4,033

Principal Investigator: Dr. Andrew Mackin

Objectives:
The objectives of this project are to develop and evaluate a novel technique for labeling red blood cells with monocrystalline iron oxide nanocompound as a contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging, and to determine the utility of this technique in demonstrating the distribution and fate of transfused red blood cells in healthy dogs and in dogs with various disease states.
