Sys 1.0 - Acceptable Use

Policy:

Use of computing and network resources at INST are governed by the Mississippi State University Policy and Procedure for use of computing and network resources (MSU Policy 0112).

Procedure:

• All parties using computing resources at INST are expected to be familiar with, and adhere strictly to, MSU Policy 0112 as well as all other MSU and INST policies that govern the use of computing and network resources.

• The user understands that the Systems Administration Unit monitors INST’s computing resources. Inappropriate use will not be tolerated, and will be reported to the appropriate channels.

• Users are expected to adhere to the following guidelines:

a. If you will be away from your workstation for any period of time, you must log out of your computer. In the event that you have a private office and do not operate on a computer that is shared, you may instead lock your workstation and remain logged in.

b. If leaving the building, all users will log out – regardless of their workstation location.

c. It is expressly forbidden for users to perform network analysis on INST systems. (e.g. port scanning, fingerprinting, penetration testing).

d. User credentials are not to be shared with anyone under any circumstances.
