Sys 4.1 - Equipment: Physical Security

Policy:
As the Systems Administration Unit is focused on the security of INST data and equipment, all computers, monitors, and other peripherals will, at all times, be securely fastened to immovable objects in such a manner that theft or tampering of the equipment would prove impossible, or nearly so.

The method of security is left to the discretion of the Systems Administration Unit, though only members of the Systems Administration Unit, the Director, and Assistant Director may have access and authorization to de-secure any equipment.

Procedure:

1. Upon the receipt and placement of new equipment, a member of the Systems Administration Unit shall secure the equipment to another large object, an immovable portion of the building, or other suitable location immediately. No equipment of any value shall be left unsecured during non-working hours without the express consent of the Director and Systems Administrator.

2. The Systems Administration Unit shall audit the security of all equipment on a regular basis. These audits will occur no less frequently than once per fiscal quarter.

3. In the event that a user shall require their equipment to be unsecured for a temporary time such as rearranging an office, changing offices, or relocating the equipment, the user can submit a written request via e-mail to the Helpdesk, (help@inst.msstate.edu).

Compliance:

Any employee found to have violated this policy may be subject to disciplinary action.
